Favorite Film Posters of the Decade Part 1
Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 12:49AM So this is a quick look back at some of my favorite movie posters from the last 10 years. We had lots of floating heads and shots of famous actors that didn't tell us anything about the films, so I tried to pick out posters that told us an interesting narrative.

Hard Candy (2005): I'm not sure I remember the first time I saw this poster, I want to say it was at Comic-con or something, but what I do remember is I really wanted to know more about this movie when I saw it. It's a great simple image referencing the "Little Red Riding Hood" but with the giant bear trap flips it and she's doing the hunting and then what does that title mean? This could have been something really bad like a close up almost "Lolita" like shot with the girl sucking on some hard candy (That poster is in part 2). Designed by Art Machine.

Funny Games (2007): Not a fan of the normal floating head but jeez I love this poster. Really dramatic shot of Naomi Watts, the contrast on this just kills it. Designed by Crew Creative Advertising.

My Winnipeg (2007): It's like a shot from a nightmare. Really like the aging on this one, from what I can tell they are going for a large format polaroid look (but I might be totally wrong). The poster tells a good story, desperate to get away from his grandmother, the arrow is pointing to the man so that must be Guy Maddin and the text tells us "The Truth is relative." Which is pretty fun with this image cause it's not made to look super real, it looks like a set. I wanted to see the movie anyway but the poster sold it. Not sure who was the designer.

Kill Bill vol.2 (2004): When I first saw this I printed it out and taped it to my cubical wall. Love the 70's throw back of it and the hand drawn text. It was a nice and drastic change from the bold yellow posters from the first film. This was a japanese made poster and for the most part they always win on poster designs.

That Funny Games poster is effing amazing. Haven't seen the remake but that was my desktop for a long time. A very 'thousands' show of appreciation.
